National Dance Institute (NDI), the non-profit arts education organization founded in 1976 by legendary New York City Ballet principal dancer Jacques d’Amboise, will host its 2018 Event of the Year: At The River’s Edge at the NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts. The 2018 Event of the Year, directed by Kelly Buwalda, will bring together over 200 talented dancers from NYC public schools in a vibrant performance inspired by the power of rivers. Featuring original choreography and live music, NDI’s Event of the Year will celebrate the cultures, creatures, and cities that thrive “at the river’s edge.” The dancers will samba in the Amazon, strut along the Hudson, pay homage to the Ganges, and set sail on the Mississippi. As we bask in the river’s beauty, we will reflect on its power to connect us more deeply to each other and the planet, and remind us of the need to protect this vital water source for future generations.
