The definitive battle of the sexes springs to life in this Tony Award®-nominated classic by Christopher Hampton, directed by the acclaimed Rufus Norris (Festen). For long-time friends and occasional lovers Vicomte de Valmont and Marquise de Merteuil, love is simply a game of chess. But in a few false moves, they find themselves locked in the ultimate checkmate. Filled with seduction, betrayal, and plenty of illicit passion, this dark comedy paints the pre-Revolutionary French aristocracy in all its cynicism and decadence.

Emmy Award-winning actress Laura Linney returns to Broadway following her Tony-nominated role in Sight Unseen in 2005. Her recent film credits include The Savages, You Can Count On Me , Kinsey (Oscar, Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award nominations), Love Actually and Mystic River.

Ben Daniels makes his Broadway debut as Vicomte de Valmont. His many stage roles in London include Laurent in Therese Raquin, Agamemnon in Iphigenia at Aulis, Vershinin in Three Sisters, Chris Keller in All My Sons (Olivier Award, WhatsonStage Award) Gregers Werle in The Wild Duck, Welch in The God of Hell, Odon von Horvath in Tales From Hollywood among many others.

The cast also includes Siân Phillips (Regrets Only) as Madame De Rosemonde, Jessica Collins (Manic Flight Reaction) as Madame De Tourvel, Mamie Gummer (RTC's Mr. Marmalade) as Cecile Volanges, Kristine Nielsen (RTC's A Streetcar Named Desire) as Madame De Volanges, Benjamin Walker (Inherit the Wind) as Danceny, Rosie Benton (RTC's Howard Katz) as Emile, Derek Cecil (Sweet Bird of Youth) as Azolan, Kevin Duda asc Servant and Jane Pfitsch as Servant.

The design team includes Scott Pask (sets), Katrina Lindsay (costumes), Donald Holder (lights), Paul Arditti (sound), Paul Huntley (hair & wigs), Deborah Hecht (dialect) and Rick Sordelet (fight direction).

Director Rufus Norris' credits include the recent West End production of Cabaret and Festen at the Almeida with a sell out run in 2004. Festen also transferred to the West End in 2004 and to Broadway in 2005.
